Aerobic Gymnastics

Aerobic gymnastics otherwise known as Sports Aerobics is a high intensity sport which originates from the traditional aerobic dance. Performance skills are developed through competing rather than award schemes or exams.

Amy Nield Sports Aerobics Coach

Entry to competitions is on the coach’s recommendation. Competitors perform a short energetic routine which demonstrates continuous movement, strength, flexibility, fitness, and skill. The routine is performed to an upbeat song on a 7m x 7m marked area. Each routine consists of aerobic movement and ‘elements’ such as push-ups, holds, jumps, and leaps. The elements vary in difficulty depending on the age and experience of the competitor.

Athletes can be male or female and can compete individually, or in a trio or larger group. Competitors can be any age over seven.

We teach the New Zealand and Australian ‘Aero-schools’ program, which is designed to encourage people in to the sport. Under this programme you begin competing against other beginners with a pre-choreographed routine.

Class levels and times:

Classes are dependent on demand. Currently we run a 2 hour, twice a week, after school class. Click here to see the class timetable. We offer classes for boys and girls aged 9 years and over.
