Susie Gordon was Secretary of the Eastern Suburbs Gymnastics Club from 2000-2006. Her passion and love of gymnastics began well before her daughters started at ESGC. In fact Susie was a gymnast herself undertaking her incentive awards and representing St Hilda’s Collegiate boarding school in Dunedin in interschool competitions. Even today, she is still a major enthusiast of the sport recognising its role and the benefit it provides in trying to keep our children fit and healthy in an environment of ever increasing health concerns. Her passion for the sport was demonstrated (and no doubt put to the test) in 2000, when she took on the role of Facility Development Manager with the primary purpose of finding a permanent facility for the club and when the club was “financially challenged”. One of her best memories was when this monumental challenge was achieved and the club took possession of its very own premises at 89 Apirana Ave in February 2006.
Those who know Susie know her as a confident woman who can achieve anything she puts her mind to. In her own words one of the major lessons she has learnt is: “Anything can be achieved if you really believe in it … it’s just a matter of patience, tenacity, passion and consistent hard work … it is just a matter of chipping away at little bits every day. This is what I endeavour to pass on to my children.”
Susie, we thank you enormously for your contribution to the club in so many ways. But special mention has to be made for all the effort and passion you put into finding and working with major contributors to purchase the premises of 89 Apirana Ave.

Kimberley Lewis Competitive Gymnast from 1996 - 2006
Period involved with ESGC:
2000 – 2006 Chairman of ESGC
1997 – 2000 Committtee Member
Best Memories
Turning the fortunes of the club around from debt
and a roll of only 100 children.
Personal Achievement:
Putting her hand up to be the Chairman in 2000 when the committee disintegrated and the
club was struggling to meet wages and rent commitments.
Legacy/Key Contribution to the Club:

Jane Lewis was Chairman of the Eastern Suburbs Gymnastics Club from 2000-2006. Her journey with the club began in 1996 when her daughter Kimberley Lewis (then aged 5) was recognised as having gymnastics talent by the head coach, Bratislav during a local school competition at Corran School.
By 1997, Jane was invited to join the committee where she was a member for three years before taking the reins as Chairman in 2000. At that stage the club’s outlook was bleak, the club was struggling to meet wages and rent commitments, but Jane put her hand up for the job anyway albeit this was contrary to her husband’s wishes. By the time Jane left in 2006 the fortunes of the club had significantly reversed. By then, ESGC had its own premises in Apirana Ave; this had been secured with the help of the Council and key contributors (incl. ASB Trust) as well as the help of many colleagues, in particular, Susie Gordon and Peter Clarke.
We thank Jane for her significant contribution to our wonderful gymnastics club. Her commitment and belief in the club lie in the legacy she has left for us all to enjoy.
