At ESGC we offer two competitive programmes; Competitive STEPs and Competitive Levels.
Our STEPs programme is under Gymnastics New Zealand’s WAG programme and our Levels programme is under Gymnastics New Zealand’s GFA programme.
In both programmes gymnasts will train multiple times a week and compete for ESGC at a different competitions during the competitive season.
Selection into the STEPS squad is by invitation only. If a child enrolled in General Gymnastics or Play Gym shows significant potential or talent, and they appear to have the appropriate mental and physical attributes to be a Competitive gymnast, they may be offered a place in the Competitive STEPS squad. The child must first pass a selection test to be admitted to this program
Competitive Gymnasts from STEP 2 up are expected to attend upwards of 4 competitions per year with the majority in Auckland but travel to other regions is also compulsory. Step 5-10 Gymnasts are eligible to compete at National Competitions and also participate at the NZ National Championships if they qualified in the preliminary competition
Our Levels programme aims to develop advanced gymnastics skills and offer the opportunity to experience gymnastics competitions as a team.
The Levels programme has a strong focus on skill development, while allowing for flexibility in which skills each gymnast incorporates into their routines. From Level 4 upwards full floor routines are made with music to go along and other apparatus routines are individually choreographed.
We provide for both boys and girls in this programme. Our girls develop skills in all four Women’s apparatus: Beam, Vault, Floor, and Uneven bars. Our boys learn skills on Floor, Vault, High bar, Parallel bars, and Rings.

Entry into the Levels programme is by invitation only.
We do not currently hold trials for our competitive levels programmes.
Coaches in all our recreational Rainbow Programmes are always observing the children in their classes.
If they feel that a child has the right mental and physical characteristics to have potential for competitive gymnastics, the club will contact the child’s family to invite them to trial Levels.
Children usually complete a one or two term trial in Levels in order to confirm that the programme is right for them.
For training sessions gymnasts must wear a leotard, with or without bike shorts, OR form fitting t-shirt to ensure comfort and safety.
Please avoid denim, baggy clothes, anything with buttons, buckles, zips, as well as dresses, or skirts.
Please no watches or jewelry as these can get damaged easily.
No shoes or socks in the gym.
Long hair must be tied up at all times.
ESGC Level’s gymnasts attend two training sessions per week.
Per class fees:
Our fees are based on the class length and number of weeks each term.
Level 3 (2 x 1.5 hour classes per week)
Level 4 and above (2 x 2 hour classes per week)
Sessions are held during school holidays. Each session is 1.5 hours long and costs $15. It is not compulsory to attend all sessions but it is advised to complete some sessions to attain routines.
Our Levels Teams compete at a minimum of five competitions per year, including one out of Auckland competition.
We expect all gymnasts to attend a minimum of three out of the scheduled competitions. We encourage them to attend all competitions if all possible.
The competition calendar is made available in Term 1 of each year.
Additional fees apply for each competition. Families will be notified of these as soon as they are known to the club.
For competitions, Levels gymnasts must wear the Club Levels Leotard and ESGC Tracksuit. Both of these can be purchased from the office.
A limited number of tracksuits are also available to hire.
